Dr. Ulrike Luderer was awarded a 2-year research grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to continue her work investigating the effects of charged particles typical of space radiation on the ovary. Luderer’s previous work demonstrated that charged oxygen and iron particles are potent destroyers of ovarian follicles, which contain the non-renewable reserve of eggs, and that they also cause ovarian tumors.
