COEH Research Seminar

“Obesity Impacts on Ovarian Toxicity”

December 6, 2019, 3:30-5:00 pm
100 Theory Avenue, Room 158

Dr. Aileen Keating
Associate Professor
Department of Animal Science
Iowa State University

The talk will cover ovarian toxicity that results from DNA damage induction by phosphoramide mustard, the active metabolite of the anticancer drug cyclophosphamide. The talk will also discuss the additive impacts of obesity and how altering the DNA damage response in the ovary affects DNA repair.

Dr. Keating is an Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University and is the Director of the Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Toxicology. She received her doctorate in Biochemistry from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2003 and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta from 2004-2006, and the University of Arizona from 2006-2010. She is author or co-author of 61 peer-reviewed articles, 11 review papers and 9 book chapters.

She is an active member of the Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR) and the Society of Toxicology (SOT). She is the current Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology specialty section president and received their 2019 Mid-Career Research Award. She serves as a reviewer for Federal and International grant panels, advisory panels and as a member of editorial board for a number of scientific journals. Her research investigates how environmental exposures alter fertility in females and whether additive physiological alterations during obesity and heat stress affect these impacts. The ultimate aim of these studies is to minimize female reproductive dysfunction that is a consequence of ovotoxic chemical exposures.
